Creative Teambuilding Melbourne style
Taking it to the Streets
IT development organisation Experian, wanted a creative teambuilding activity. The Business Goal was to focus on the need for more proactive and quality communication between the team and with their clients and stakeholders. The secondary goal was to have an enjoyable and fun event. The event activity needed to connect with each other and step away from the need for their usual highly analytical way of thinking to a more right brained approach.
After understanding the goals and culture of the team and company, we themed the event ‘Making Quality Noise” and our artistic theme was inspired by quality “Street Art” (also known as graffiti). The workshop was to focus on the whys and how’s of quality noise and the creative component was to artistically capture the benefits of making quality noise.
To kick off the event our artists met with the participants at Hosier Lane, Melbourne’s best known lane capturing the best street art in Australia. The team, normally at home in front of their PCs, wandered the streets and took photos of their favorite art. Our artists explained the art, bringing life and meaning to what we often don’t understand.
After this fresh team building experience the team trammed it down to the Mind Gallery Melbourne studio at the Docklands where they continued their team development and goal focus by creating their own piece of Street Art – complete with stencils and spray cans.
The event activity was a lot of fun, and the team developed a new appreciation of quality Street Art (not tagging!) together with actions around making quality noise (communication). This piece is hanging proudly in the reception of the Melbourne Head Office in St Kilda Rd. A great reminder of what can be achieved as a team. A quality result!
